Can You See the Wind?

We can hear and see thunder and lightening when there is a storm. When a tornado is spotted, people see the funnel cloud. When it rains, snows or sleets, we see the droplets coming from the sky.

But have you ever thought about what you can’t see – the wind. Yes you can see the trees and flowers moving, but can you actually see the wind?

We have had many storms and some caused damaged by straight line winds. They are as dangerous as a tornado. Houses have been damaged as well as commercial properties.

When there is a thunderstorm warning or a chance of these strong storms, the meteorologist’s usually advise us of this by issuing warnings and advising people to take cover. They advise people to get out of the path of the storms and take shelter in a strong building.

During these warnings, most people listen and do as they say. Some people have storm cellars or basements they proceed to. I know when I was a child, I hated storms and would go get in bed with my parents. I wanted a safe place. I wanted to feel safe from the things I could and could not see or hear.

When you think about it, God is similar to the wind. We can’t see Him just like we can’t see the wind.

But why is it we take cover from the wind but not from God?

Why is it we heed the warnings about the wind but not the warnings God has told us in His Word?

We have more trust in the wind we can’t see, than the God we can’t see.

But why do we trust the wind and not God?

Exodus 10:19 (NIV) And the Lord changed the wind to a very strong west wind, which caught up the locusts and carried them into the Red Sea.

God is the one who created the wind. God is the one who can change the wind. And we trust the wind over God?

Sometimes I know it is hard not to believe in something we can’t touch, feel, taste, or see. I’ve doubted so many times about so many things I can touch, feel, taste or see, let’s not mention the things I can’t.

To believe in something we can’t see, it takes trust and faith. These two words, trust and faith, are hard words in so many ways but I love what the Bible states about both of these.

Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Proverbs 3:5 (NIV) Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.

There are so many things in this world we can see and not see, that we can trust and have faith in. We can trust the other driver on the road. We can trust the pilot of the plane. We have faith our money will be safe in the bank. We have faith we will keep our jobs.

But do we have trust and faith in God, whom we can’t see?

There are so many verses in the Bible we can turn to and recite but we have to believe it! We have to know it! We have to have no doubt!

But here is where I’m going to be honest. I can’t say I have the trust and faith 24 hours a day 365 days a year. It’s hard. It’s tough. I have to work on it every day. Some days are harder than others.

I do believe to make things easier it takes a lot of work and help. I believe we must be in worship with other believers. I believe we must have friends who can pray for us. I believe we must read His Word daily. I believe we must pray.

Are you working on it? Are you worshipping with other believers? Do you have friends to pray with you? Are you reading your Bible daily? Are you praying?

Will you begin trusting the God you can’t see as much as you do the wind? Will you begin believing the God you can’t see as much as the things you can see?
