Choose Joy 2017 – Day 1

John 15:11. (NIV)
I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

Do you remember singing the song I’ve Got Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy, Down in My Heart” when you were little?  I remember learning it one year at a Bible School when I was very young.  I attached a version of it from You Tube for you to listen to in case you do not remember.

When I sung the song as a child, I’m not sure I really understood what it meant to have “joy down in my heart”.  I was a happy child and I was joyful, but did I have it deep down in my heart.

Joy used in this verse could be replaced with the Greek word, “chara”. Chara means grace which is an expression of thankfulness for being forgiven by God.

Now read the verse and replace the first joy with grace.

I have told you this so that my GRACE may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

When we accept JESUS as our personal savior and for suffering on the cross for us, we should be filled with JOY.  It should complete us.

We should not need money, prestige, titles, love from anyone else, drugs, alcohol, NOTHING.  His grace should be sufficient for our Joy.

So what do we do when we are just not feeling very joyful?

We need to get on our knees and pray to The Lord or read His Word. If that’s not enough, think about the suffering, pain and agony he went through on the cross and I’m sure it’s nothing compared to what you are going through.

All Christians should be so joyful we ooze with excitement. Smile and be joyful, we have a Savior to be thankful for all our blessings.

So will you smile and be joyful today as you take your child to school, drive in that rush hour traffic, work a hard day, come home to a house full of hungry people, laundry to be done, homework to be finished, bills to be paid?

Yes! Because of JESUS you were able to even experience these things whether good or bad.
